it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We Love New York City! My students and I are back at it, in the school building, making steady gains in Mathematics after living in quarantine for the last few months. Our classroom is a veritable hub of diversity, though over 95% of my school's population receives free lunch - the majority of students come from lower-level income households. We take this in stride and are inspired to overcome our plates full of challenges.
I have a few amazing groups of super resilient students who require basic supplies like notebooks, pencils, erasers, and colored pencils.
One would think that basic supplies such as these are present in every classroom in our country, but currently - with public school funding absolutely decimated - we will need your assistance in preparing our students with the mathematics necessities.
My Project
My students' proactive, problem-solving mindsets are flourishing, however, our access to basic materials is floundering. NYC public schools have fallen on unfortunately lean times - my classroom is decidedly lacking in a supply of basic materials. We are in need of pencils and proper graphing notebooks so that we may begin to explore the exciting world of Algebra. We have the opportunity to set our academic careers in motion on the right foot, though it is essentially impossible to do so without access to adequate classroom supplies.
The notebooks, pencils, and colored pencils in this project will fuel my students' appreciation of, love for, and curiosity concerning mathematics.
We are at an important point in the math journey of our students where we can highlight critical relationships that they will see in the remainder of their studies. It is imperative that we equip our students with what they need to succeed.
I'm proud to be a representative for the joys of math study for my students. We have a very challenging year ahead, wherein students may not share materials, so the supplies that you contribute will become the personal tools that my students use both in school and at home.
