This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach at a small Tk-8 school in Oakland. Our school is a Waldorf-inspired urban public charter. We serve an extremely diverse student population, and try to bring beauty and love into sometimes rough surroundings. I have a large class of active kindergarteners (19 boys and 11 girls). My students come from a variety of backgrounds, and for many students this is their first experience at school.

Our class loves art, singing, playdough, tag, writing, and storytime.

They have endless energy and enthusiasm, and bring joy and surprises into the classroom each day.

My Project

My students have no current access to technology, and I believe having tablets in our classroom would help some of my struggling readers access literacy skills! We are working hard to learn to read, but right now there is only one teacher and 30 students. It's hard for everyone to receive intensive help from me each day to support our reading progress.

With the addition of a few tablets, I would be able to have a virtual "second teacher" to work on targeted skills and practice with audiobooks and educational games.

My students would benefit from a listening center, and I hope you are able to help us reach this goal.
