About My Students

My first period 8th grade full-year music class is certainly an interesting bunch. Even though at times they are apt to talk a good deal, they definitely have shown a desire to further learn the art of music.

They are excited to participate in the DonorsChoose project process too, after hearing about my other classes projects. We did not have internet first period on the day we picked projects, so it is alright that this class is making their project a day after!

Students will be able to expand their sonic palettes with these new instruments. We already have acoustic ukuleles and a banjo, but students really want to play electric ones too! We will run them through our pedal and effects board, to give students unlimited possibilities of different sounds they can create.

In Their Own Words

We need to expand our music knowledge, to make our music class as best as it can be. We need a more diverse modern methods of making music. We cannot do that with low-quality instruments. Electric instruments will give us more tonal choices when we record and honestly are just more fun.

We can show leadership by completing this project by hopefully inspiring others to do the same. If other students see us play these great instruments, maybe they will come up with their own ideas! Maybe by going through this process, we can ask our other teachers to do projects in other subjects too!

One problem this project will solve, is the problem of microphone bleed and sound isolation. When we try to record acoustic instruments, we need a silent sound-space to do so, which sometimes is difficult in a full-class setting. With electronic instruments, we can do so by just recording from the electric instrument directly to the interface.
