As a teacher in a low-income school district, my athletes are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I want to provide them with a learning environment to meet all of their needs as athletes.
My volleyball and basketball players surprise me every day with their positive attitudes and their determination to become better athletes.
They like to interact with each other on and off the court, they love to better themselves as athletes, and are always willing to give it their all. These students have a challenging life and many obstacles they have to jump through in their personal lives. These things may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may not provide them with the life experiences many of us see as "normal."
As soon as these students walk through the gym door to practice, I make sure they know they're loved by me, and I push them to be the best version of themselves. Even though I see the struggle they bring to school, I make my sport practices a safe-zone. Every practice we shake it all out, and we become a collaborative team.
My Project
At our school we are in need of updated equipment to make our sports teams more beneficial to our athletes. Our volleyballs and basketballs are way outdated and these news balls will be a great way for our players to come together as a team. The balls will help work on players skills, without the stress of the ball deflating. We will need a cart to store the volleyballs in during games and practices.
If we able to get this equipment we will have a better basketball and volleyball program at our school.
We will be able to help grow our school pride! With this equipment we can get more of our community into our schools and grow that relationship.
Athletes would learn how to play on a team and participate in two different team building sports. This project being funded would mean the world to a small, rural, low income school.
