This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students have developed a love of reading but have no where to sit when in the classroom library! I teach a special education class in a high-need community of New York City where resources are scarce.
Unfortunately, our school lacks funds to provide every classroom with supplies and materials like the much needed carpet. My students have been sitting on a temporary rug that is worn, not up to fire standards, and too small for them all to fit.
With a new carpet, my students will have a comfortable place to sit when exploring our classroom library or listening to lessons. The "Flags Around the World" carpet is fire resistant and allergy-free, which sadly, is not the case with our current carpet. In addition, our classroom theme this year is "becoming global citizens". With a carpet that displays all continents and flags of many countries, it will not only serve an aesthetic purpose. In fact, it will help my students become even more invested in learning about the world community.
These students should spend their time in a bright, colorful, and welcoming environment that fosters learning. You will make it possible for my students to have the beautiful classroom they deserve AND help them learn their geography!
