We Need Snacks For Our Pre-K Students With Special Needs!

My students need cookies, crackers, fruit snacks, chips, Pop Tarts, etc. for snacks at school while working on their communication.

My Students

Meal time is an important part of our Pre-K daily schedule because we are able to really focus on the students communication delays. But what happens when there is no money for snacks?

My students are Pre-K/EC and their age ranges from 3-5.

The class is blended with children with different types of special needs (Autism, Developmental Delays, fine and gross motor delays, Speech Delay, and other Disorders). All of the students have some type of language and communication deficits. The students have difficulty understanding language and communicating their wants and needs. We use several augmentative communication devices, sign language to communicate, and picture symbols. The school is a Title 1 school with about 100% of the students on free and reduced price lunch. Most of the parents are single parents, which leaves little money to help with materials needed in the classroom.

My Project

This donation of snacks to our Pre-K students with special needs will improve the classroom in many ways. Meal time is an important part of our daily schedule because we are able to really focus on the students' communication delays. The students in this class are still learning to use their words (with pictures, technology, sign language) to ask for their wants and needs. We use feeding time to work on this skill. Unfortunately, my class is lacking funding to provide snacks for our most special learners because of the budget cuts in North Carolina Early Childhood. Pre-K students should be having fun learning and not worrying about if they will have snacks. Also many of our students are bused from the other side of the city to come to our special program. Some of the students are getting onto the bus as early as 6 am. It is a very long day for these young 3-5 year-olds and they get really hungry and upset. Please help me reach the students by making sure they have a snack everyday.

These snacks (cookies, crackers, fruit snacks, chips, Pop Tarts, etc.) will give the Special Needs Pre-K students the chance to work on communicating while they enjoy a snack.

These snacks that we are in need of will provide much needed food for the students and also give them opportunities for growth and learning in the classroom.
