Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My 34 third graders are anxious to learn and have conversations about what they're learning. Our school is high poverty, and I have many students who are just learning English. They inspire me every single day because they don't let any barriers stand between them and their education. One thing that always amazes me is that regardless of the language barrier, they are able to easily explore new technology and find ways to implement it to make their presentations better. They understand that our classroom is a community of learners, and they help each other when they see a peer is struggling.

My Project

My students desperately need science materials. We see our neighboring school engage and explore in the field of science, but we do not have the resources to do the same.

I want my students to know that despite their economic situation, they too can become scientist.

It is my goal to provide my incoming third graders with a quality education in science that excites them about the amazing world that surrounds us. I am requesting the teacher's guide and student set of "Building Blocks of Science A New Generation: Forces and Interactions" so that I may have a guide to start our learning in science. We do not have a science curriculum at our school, and I know that these materials would make such a difference in my instruction. The "Curriculum Mastery Science Flip Chart" will serve as an easy visual for students to refer to as they get introduced to other topics in science. I believe that these materials will not only expose students to the science field, but in return, it will also improve their reading skills as they put to use their reading strategies in content specific texts.
