I am a special needs teacher in a low income, inner-city school district. My classroom consists of 12 amazing middle school-aged students, all diagnosed with a moderate disability, such as Autism, Intellectual disabilities, and Neurological disabilities. Their eagerness and enthusiasm towards learning is not only contagious, but inspiring as well. Despite the difficulties they endure on a daily basis, they still come to school every day, ready and excited to learn. My students inspire and motivate me, not only to be a better teacher, but to become a better person as well.
My Project
I am extremely lucky to have an amazing class that is eager to learn. Unfortunately, we do not have access to appropriate curriculum that will meet their academic needs. Therefore, in order to learn a certain skill or understand new concepts, I must make the materials myself.
Recently, I found a wonderful social skills curriculum that addresses students social-emotions needs, sold on Teachers Pay Teachers.
This is an area, that, due to the pandemic, my students need a lot of help with. I would love to purchase this curriculum for my students, as it is the subject that tends to be the most difficult to find appropriate resources for.
