My Students
Help us be successful! Many of my 2nd grade students are reading at a K or 1st grade level. My school provides limited resources for teachers and students. Many come from broken homes and don't have motivation to even learn. Research has shown that quality resources make a difference.
My students come from poverty stricken homes and most don't know how good it feels to succeed.
My classroom is a second grade, integrated room in New York. A lot of my students come from broken homes or live with other relatives because their parents have made a wrong choices in their lives. All of my students are visual learners and my school doesn't have the resources that the teaches need and technology is one of these resources. I have 8 special education students in my room that need more support. I want to ensure that I am doing everything I can to help them succeed. I can't tell you how many times I have looked over and seen the tears of my students because they are frustrated. They have it in them to be great learners and it is my responsibility to make this happen.
My Project
Having leveled books in the classroom will allow my students to feel successful, which will help them make progress. Most of my students have no one at home to push them to do their best. Some of the students think they will always be failures when it comes to reading. The few books that we have in the classroom are old and not interesting to second graders. I have chosen books that my students can relate to and motivate them to want to read.
The books will also help my students during guided reading groups. I know my students could be making a lot more progress if they had the resources available to them. It would also give them the opportunity to read at home. I know having quality literature will help my students succeed.
Not only will leveled readers help my students make progress in reading, but they will also show progress in all other subject areas.
You have to be able to read to answer a word problem, to take a test, to learn new things in social studies and science. These books will make all the difference in my classroom!
