We Need Piggy Banks And Ledgers For Financial Education!
My students need individual My Dog Piggy Banks, ledger books, The Kids' Money Book: Earning, Saving, Spending, Investing, Donating to secure their financial futures.
I am an AIS teacher located in the Bronx, New York City. I teach eager kindergarten, first and third grade children who are struggling readers and writers. My students are devoted to learning but need a different approach toward their education. They need small group instruction that uses many types of manipulatives.
When my children are successful, the look of wonder in their eyes is a sight to behold.
It is truly what makes being a teacher the best job in the world.
My Project
My students are always wondering why they do not have enough money for the snack store. They also complain that their parents say they will take them to Disney, but it still hasn't occurred.
I want to be able to teach the meaning of saving toward your future wants and needs.
In order to accomplish this I feel we need to understand money. Not only its immediate value, but where the best jobs will be in the future, how to set aside 10% of your salary for retirement (yes I know they are little, but I wish someone instilled this in me when I was young), and how to invest. This sounds like a perfect project for banks and ledgers. I will be able to set up a savings plan for my children to use. The banks are robotic dogs so it should really appeal to children to save their money. Also, it is very sturdy and little hands will not destroy it.
We will use the ledgers to track our savings, spending and yes, even our donations. I'm sure it will be a eye opener to everyone, especially me, on how much money we waste and how it would be better to take charge of our money now and future earnings.
