This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
“We need technology in every classroom and in every student and teacher’s hand, because it is the pen and paper of our time, and it is the lens through which we experience much of our world.” – David Warlick. Technology is the new pen and paper of our time but without paper it is not as effective.
I teach 30 fourth grade students in an inner city school.
They are very active and sometimes find it hard to focus on the task assigned to them. Their ability and motivation to complete their assignments change greatly when technology is involved. This is evident when it comes to writing, my students find it less challenging to write if they use the computer to write their essay. They enjoy getting creative with different fonts, inserting images, and editing their mistakes. My students look forward to writer's workshop on a daily basis. They pull out their journals and draft papers awaiting their turn on the computer. It is satisfying as a teacher to witness students enjoying and taking pride in their learning.
My Project
The paper that I am asking for is an important resource to our classroom. It is important to my student to print the essays they write. To see the published piece in hard copy is proof of all the time and effort they spent drafting, revising, and editing their writing assignment. Throughout the school year they learn to write in a variety of different genres and across the curriculum. At this point, my students are limited in their ability to print out their hard copies because of our limited paper supply.
Help my students print their essays, providing them with the incentive of typing up their essay on the computer and then printing them has a great impact on them, not only in terms of completing their tasks, but also increasing their confidence.
Making them feel like true scholars. Your generosity is greatly appreciated.
