We Need Our Space!

Help me give my students open front desks. Currently, we use large kitchen tables, but I have found that some of my students with autism can't handle others in their space. The desks will help with personal space.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach a Life Skills class of 9 students that range from 6-8th grade. They love learning and are always eager to try new things. We love to do science experiments and daily living skills every week. This includes planning and cooking a meal and learning how to do laundry for example. This also includes social skills and how to interact with others even though they may have issues that make it hard on them at times. My students are the hardest workers I know!

My Project

Please help us provide these individual desks to our students. We currently use large kitchen tables, but I have found that my students with autism are not able to handle others in their space. These desks would allow them to have their own space as well as the storage area. Not only could we space them out, but we could also move them together if some of my other students are doing small group work. This would also be a good learning experience for them to know how to keep their area clean and organized. At the end of the day, we always clean up, and this could help them have a personal duty.
