My Students
My students come in, unpack and get straight to work. They start their day with reading workshop. They read independently and then are read a story. Next, we do math workshop. After that we do writing for a period. At the end of the day we either have science, social studies or phonics.
I have 25 wonderful students.
More than half of my students are English Language Learners. Most of them receive free lunch. They are very sweet and kind to each other. They love coming to school and learning new things. They like to sing and dance when we have some free time.
My Project
I am requesting an inexpensive CD player and some CDs. I want to sing songs each day as part of our language experience. Nursery rhymes are a great way for my students to become familiar with the English language. They will have the opportunity to hear sounds of letters, words, rhymes and patterns.
The CD player and music CDs will help my students become ready for reading.
My students need to have many opportunities to hear lots of rhymes and patterns, since most of them are English Language Learners. By hearing the songs, students will be exposed to lots of new words that they haven't heard before. By knowing the words to the songs, they can begin to read the words on the paper.
