My first grade students live in the country-side of Waimea where they are surrounded by hills, Maunakea, and farming. From the time I open the door my students are overly excited to find out what they will be learning. We are still working on mastering foundational skills to further our education.
Our classroom is a place where exploration and curiosity is encouraged.
My classroom is not run by me, but my future leaders. They steer the direction in which they want to lead their learning and take ownership of it. I am just a guide that gives them the proper tools they need in order to access their learning rather than front loading my students with information.
My Project
Reading centers is a FAVORITE in my classroom. My students LOVE them and it gives me time to pull students in a smaller group setting depending on their individual needs. These phonics activities will be perfect for my kiddos as they will be able to get immediate feedback when they are answering the questions on the Quiz Cards with the use of the Power Pens. This frees me of having to check their work and increases my students' independence.
Phonics is the building blocks to reading.
The products that I've selected are geared toward the varied phonics skills my students will be learning and practicing through out the year. These products will give them multiple times to practice with certain phonic skills. It also me to differentiate my reading centers by being able to pick and choose which activity each student or reading group will work on based off of their needs. Foremost, the Quiz Cards call for little prep, instruction and clean up time as all all the students have to do is choose a Power Pen and a box on which they need to work on.
