This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am writing this proposal for my high school vocal students who participate in our Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced Choirs. Our high school serves a large urban area and has a high percentage of students who are low-income. Many of students do not have the opportunity to experience high quality vocal instruction outside of the school setting. It is exciting to see them grow in their knowledge and excitement for vocal music. Many of them will participate in the program for 3-4 years.

One of the major obstacles that my students face is the reality that they cannot afford private music instructors.

We have many talented students who often cannot afford to purchase the music that they need to reach higher levels of success. As a result, our music program must provide them with appropriate music and opportunities to experience and learn high quality vocal repertoire. If our program does not provide our students with these learning opportunities, it is possible that they will never be able to experience significant success at music festivals and college auditions. We need opera repertoire books to build our student repertoire library.

My Project

We want our students to have access to great works of vocal music that they can listen to and learn for festivals, solo contests and college auditions. This will result in significant academic benefits to my students. Many of them are interested in pursuing the study of music at the college level. We need a music library that my students can use to select music that they think is exciting, compelling and appropriate for their level of learning. Participating in varied musical settings with standard high quality repertoire will be a great help to my students as they strive to be successful in their musical endeavors.
