We Need More Bass (Ukulele)!

Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

The ukulele class at our school has become a popular place to learn all sorts of music. From traditional Hawaiian music such as “Aloha Oe” to popular music such as “Ghostbusters” or “Lava,” our ukulele students are quick to voice opinions about what they would like to learn and then putting in the work to learn it.

However, our ukulele ensemble uses soprano ukuleles and is missing the bass sounds.

To compensate, one of our students switches to electric bass for some music. Although easily able to switch between the instruments, our students would prefer for the class to utilize ukuleles. By adding a bass ukulele, all students would be able to use the bass and our ensemble would sound more balanced.
