We Need Instruments!

My students need an adequate number of basic classroom instruments to replace the rusty ones and enhance our understanding of music and different instrument groups.

My Students

Most people remember their elementary music classes. Music class is filled with singing, dancing, games, and learning about instruments...but most people's favorite memory is playing instruments.

Our school is considered "high poverty." These students work very hard every day to get the most out of school and get a great education.

Coming to music class is a break from their regular studies, but we continue to work hard and learn everything we can about music in the short time they are here. I also strive to include cross-curricular activities in nearly every lesson, whether it be math, reading, social studies or science. Spending this time learning about music has its own benefits, but music instruction has also been linked to increased understanding in other academic subjects, namely math, due to the area of the brain reached through music.

My Project

Right now we only have 2 pair of maracas, a few drums, some wrist bells, some rusty jingle taps, and sand blocks. We don't mind sharing, but 2 or 3 of each instrument just isn't enough! I am requesting several different types of instruments, with enough for half the class to have one instrument while the other half has another. Finger cymbals, tambourines, triangles, rhythm sticks, and more maracas will give us a great start to building a suitable set of classroom instruments with which to learn.

These instruments will last for years to come.

We currently serve around 800 students. Your donation will literally impact thousands of kids! ALL students in the school (present and future!) will use these instruments at some point or another during their time here. Please help me give these students the best music education possible while they are in my care.
