My Students

I teach in Wichita, KS. There are approximately 920 students and it is the largest K-8 school in the Wichita district. I teach K-5 general music as well as exploratory classes for 7th and 8th grade students.

I am so excited to work with the students, parents, and staff to bring them the love and joy of music.

Our school is in the top 1% of the most diverse schools in the state. Our school has 62% minority enrollment with 28% Asian, 12% Hispanic, and 11% Black. Our students eligible for free and reduced-price lunch is at 40%. I want to give my new students the best opportunities to learn.

My Project

Orff instruments, such as xylophones, metallophones, and glockenspiels, are standard instruments for general music classrooms. These instruments give students a hands-on learning experience with numerous musical concepts such as melody, harmony, chords, steady beat, rhythms, and more! Playing an Orff instrument has been shown to improve children's dexterity, hand-eye coordination, agility, and concentration.

We need enough instruments for each student to rotate to get a turn during music class.

My largest classrooms have 27 kids. I have many children's books that the students can play rhythms and melodies to on these new instruments. Students love learning to play these instruments and they last for many years of enjoyment. We will also be using these instruments during our music programs this year.
