My inner city school lacks so much by way of supplies, but not in creativity. The children and students can think of unlimited ways to make the best of what they have, which is not much. The city is constantly cutting the budget, relying on caring teachers to buy supplies out of their own pockets to enhance the children's learning.
I am hoping to gain funds to purchase some simple recess equipment/supplies for my fifth graders, but, to be shared across grade levels in order to keep the children active, and hopefully more healthy. Our children have a lack of desire for 'play time' because there is nothing but a parking lot for them to play in.
We really could use your help to purchase some basic playground equipment, such as kick balls, footballs, ring toss games, Frisbees, and 'stack 'em cups' that would encourage the children to play outside when the weather permits, or inside on cold rainy and/or winter days. They spend numerous hours on testing, test prep and learning things by rote, where they are required to stay seated for long periods of time. Needless to say, they get restless, and need to have an outlet for their energy.
I hope you can make their day, and ours!! Thanks in advance for any help you can afford.
