My Students

I have a group of intelligent, inquisitive, 1st graders. They come to school eager to learn. They love when I read books to them. This past school year we read "How to heal a Broken Wing" by Bob Graham. The students made so many connections from the book to their real life. At the end when the bird's wing was healed the whole class erupted with clapping and shouts of joy. It almost brought tears to my eyes to witness the joy and innocence of childhood. It was inspiring.

My Project

My students desperately need diverse leveled books, as well as, diverse read alouds that reflect their experiences and the importance of African American history. These books will help my students move up to grade level and read books that are interesting to them.

I want my students to know that they can achieve their goals through hard work and putting in effort every day.

I want my students to see themselves in books and say "I can do that" or "why not me". I want them to use books to make a change in their lives and the lives of their families.
