My students need more books to read during social studies that show diverse perspectives. We also need a laminator for the classroom to help with science and social studies projects.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students all live in the Belmont-Cragin Neighborhood in Chicago. 95% of my students are Latino, and most of them speak Spanish at home. It is therefore very important for my students to have materials to express themselves through art, and words, but they don't always have the resources to do this.
My students have the imagination and drive to succeed at anything they try!
Most of my students are still in enrolled in ESL programs. I would love to have resources to help them feel more confident in their bilingual skills. I want them to to be able to express themselves in every way I know they are capable of. They are excited and ready to learn!
My Project
We need to get diverse books into classrooms. The two anthologies, Flying Lessons and Fresh Ink, published by the organization will give my students different perspectives and ones of their own to help understand the world around them. 6th grade social studies is all about understanding global perspectives, and these two anthologies will help my students with that.
Amina's Voice and Enchanted Air are two books that will show my students that all middle schoolers can have the same problems regardless of background.
Most of my students are immigrants or have immigrant backgrounds in their families. These two books will give my students literature with mirrors which is essential.
We do all kinds of projects in Social Studies and Science and when I post them in the room they can get tattered quite easily. I want to be able to laminate some of these projects so my students can feel more proud of their work and their classroom.
