Our students give each other shout-outs, and speak up when others are treated unfairly! They are curious, courageous, responsible, and know how to have fun! During virtual small groups, they step up and step down and reflect on their participation! Many of our students are from mixed backgrounds and we have a range of socio-economic backgrounds, as we are an intentionally diverse school. Our school is committed to 50% of our students being from low-income households.
My Project
Students learn better when the information is relevant to their lives. To support our early readers, I want to build our library that is reflective of their passions, and self! Most of our books are old and not representative of the diversity/identities within our classroom and globalized world. Due to COVID-19, students regressed in reading levels, and as we open this month for in-person learning, with these leveled books, the kids can access reading and learning as soon as possible! Kids can both check out these books in their book baggies according to their just right reading level and grow their reading skills!
