My students need essential craft materials to get the most out of classroom instruction.

My Students
Do you remember a time when you needed something as simple as a pencil and you just didn't have the money to buy one? This is an everyday struggle for my district. Some of my students don't even start out the year with a backpack. If I want my students to be successful I have to supply everything.
My students come from poverty-stricken homes and most don't know how good it feels to succeed.
My classroom is a second grade, integrated room in New York. A lot of my students come from broken homes or live with other relatives, because their parents have made wrong choices in their lives.
I have 8 special education students in my room that need more support. I want to ensure that I am doing everything I can to help them succeed. I want to be able to provide the fun and interactive learning that they deserve. They learn from hands-on activities and sometimes I can't provide what they need on my own.
My students are amazed by the smallest things because they don't have opportunities to take adventures or to see the world. Often times they learn through experiences I share with them. They show great excitement when I am able to show them things they have never seen before. It is my job to open their minds and to get them on the right learning path.
My Project
The materials I requested are basic. Pencils, erasers, sharpeners, white boards, timers and a stapler. These materials are usually already in the classroom, and in other districts parents provide their child with what they need. In my case, I provide all 25 children with the basic materials that are needed to learn.
These materials will be put to use everyday. They will also be used for all subject areas. The white boards will help make learning fun for my students. They will allow all of my students to participate and they will also allow me to assess how much the know. Hands on materials can make a huge difference in the classroom.
I also requested a few educational DVDs and CDs. Some of my students don't have a television at home or CD players. They are not given he opportunities to see real animals on TV. I want to help bring the world to them and I want to enhance their lives as much as I can.
Sometimes it is the simple things that children need.
I am not requesting expensive equipment. I am requesting materials that no child should have to go without. Please help bring the things that my class needs to be successful learners. I provide as much as I can, but what I have can only go so far.
