Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My classroom is a place where students come to learn and to deepen their understanding of math and literacy. My classroom is welcoming and students feel safe.
My students come from different cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds.
They all bring a variety of experiences to the classroom. While some students have not been outside of their neighborhood, they are able to experience the world through the books that we read and through the different topics that we cover in class. My students attend a school that allows them to learn both English and Spanish. They are able to experience these languages through math, science, social studies, and literacy. They have access to two different languages at home and at school. Also, we serve a large percentage of English Language Learners at our school. These students are incredibly bright and have so much potential.
My Project
The materials that I have requested will be utilized to not only challenge the students to think deeper but to help them engage while learning a new standard. The board games that I have chosen are games that require students to strategize and work together with their peers. Some of them require the students to use skills that they have learned in and out of school. For example, Battleship is a game that requires students to use coordinate grids. This game will allow the students to practice that skill in a fun and engaging way.
I have selected games and resources that will allow students to be critical thinkers.
They will have to utilize skills that have been taught and will also help them develop new skills. Many of the resources also serve as visuals for new concepts that we will be learning in class. Providing visuals for my students will help all but especially my ELL students that need additional support.
