We Need Chromebooks for Math and Reading!

My Students

What was your favorite subject when you were in school? Did you groan at the thought of reading, or was it hard for you to put a book down? Was math confusing for you, or did it come easily? I want to help every one of my students succeed in reading and math this year.

Sixth grade is an important year in the lives of my students.

It is the first year of middle school and a year in which they learn a lot about themselves. I teach 81 incredible students who show me their strengths and talents each day. They have a wide variety of abilities in math and reading. With the College Preparatory Math program students work in teams every day to solve real-life math problems. It's amazing to see how they work together to problem solve. Though all of my students are capable of that critical thinking, some still struggle with math. These students need extra math practice, and some need help continuing to build the foundational skills that will lead to success in math. During reading workshop, I confer with individual students and teach small groups. While many of my students love to read, there are some that still struggle. I need more resources to ensure that all of my students make gains in math and reading this school year.

My Project

My students need three Chromebooks to help them make gains in both math and reading this year. Here are the ways we will use the Chromebooks: 1 - Students will be able to go online to use the district's Moby Math program, which will help students boost their math skills. 2 - Students will be able to use other online math tutoring programs to help build their foundational skills. 3 - Students will blog about what they are reading, as well as respond to their peers' blogs. 4 - Students will be able to read e-books on the Chromebooks, and struggling readers will therefore have access to better, higher-interest texts that are at their reading levels. This will help motivate them to read during reading workshop, and they will grow as readers because of this time spent reading. 5 - Students will be able to conduct research. 6 - Students will use reading apps to work on specific reading skills.

Each year teachers hear about students who "fall through the cracks." I don't want a single student to slip through my grasp this year.

I want to ensure that every single student has the opportunity to make significant gains in math and reading this year. Please help us get the technology to help us learn and grow this year!
