Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
A typical day in our classroom starts and ends with reading! My students come to my class in August reading picture storybooks and end our year in the spring reading chapter books! They are voracious readers who just love delving into new stories and especially series of books.
I have a wonderful group of high needs students.
Most of my students receive free/reduced price lunch. Despite their many needs they come to school ready to learn and wanting to better themselves. My school and students set high standards for themselves. Our school and district has suffered many budget cuts this year and most likely will have more in the near future.
My Project
My students need beginning chapter books like Arthur and Young Cam Jansen to help with fluency and comprehension. We will use these books to bridge the valley between picture books and regular chapter books. Students will be able to read these books as a class, with a partner and individually. Our goal will be to increase fluency, comprehension, and reading levels.
We are also looking forward to that feeling of accomplishment a child gets when they complete their first chapter books successfully.
Your donation to this project will not only help improve reading scores it will help my students to develop a love of reading. By introducing the characters of Arthur and Young Cam Jansen in class my students will know success and be able to read other books in these series independently.
