Help me give my students some new books to read. We read every day and are building our stamina. We are reading all our books, but they are old and torn. We would love new and interesting books!!
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach a class of highly enthusiastic 1st graders. They are creative, interested and eager to learn. Many of our students spend the full day at our school, so this is another home for them. We have many families that work minimal wage jobs and need help and assistance. Our school is located in Bushwick and is a Title I school. Our students receive free breakfast and lunch. We have a large bilingual population and our families want the best for their children.
My Project
Having new books in our classroom would be a great addition to our class library. We are currently working on building our stamina as readers, and can independently read for 11 minutes. With more books to offer, we could easily add more time to build our stamina up.
Our class has been using the same books for many years.
They are worn, torn and used. The class deserves clean books with bright pictures to read and learn from. They would be so excited to have new and colorful animal books--since we are really diving into Nonfiction Books. We would also love a variety of books to choose from when we read.
