My project needs 32 books and a book display to create a classroom library.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Morris's classroom raised $413
This project is fully funded
I teach first grade at an elementary school in Washington, DC where about 80% of the students qualify for free or reduced lunch. We are committed to exposing our children to new experiences, places, and people. In order to really do this in my classroom, I need to have a library where my students can select books to transport them to wherever they choose to go.
When I walked into my classroom for the first time this year, it was empty except for the students' desks and my own desk. There were literally no books or supplies. The school has since ordered text books for the students, but I do not have any extra books to create a classroom library. Reading at home is absolutely essential to developing emerging readers' skills. Many of my students come from homes where there are few or no books.
Helping us create a classroom library will give my students a chance to share their new reading skills with their families and help them improve those skills. To do this, we need books and a display to make those books attractive for the children. I have asked for a set of Caldecott Medal winner picture books (outstanding illustrations), a set of beginning readers, and a set of beginning chapter books in order to meet the needs of all my students and their various abilities. I have also asked for a display to put the books on their level.
You can help make reading exciting and fun for the most amazing group of seven year olds I have ever met.
