We Need Book Shelves!

My students need a five shelves for their new books! We are getting a shipment of new reading books from Donors Choose, but we don't have enough shelving!

My Students

The average reading level in my 11th grade classroom is at the 6th grade.

Many of my students have never finished a novel length book. I wanted to provide fun and exciting books for my students to inspire them to read on their own. Thanks to the donors at Donors Choose, we have a new reading library on the way. The only problem is that we do not have anywhere to put our books! Most of my students are of Native Hawaiian descent. They live on the Leeward cost of Oahu. They love singing, dancing, sports, and art; just the same as kids all over the world. My students are a part of a special academy that focuses on helping the students learn technical skills through film making and graphic design.

My Project

We have two rickety bookshelves, but they are overflowing with books--there are textbooks piled up on top of the shelves, teetering dangerously. It's difficult for the students to find books on the shelves because every nook and cranny is jammed with books. I'm hoping that the new book shelves will make it easier for us to spread out the books in an organized way. I'd like to categorize the books by reading level and type/theme.

I think these bookshelves, although they do not seem that exciting, will make our reading library more inviting.

I want the students to be excited about picking out their books, and a clean and organized environment is more inviting than a cramped, unorganized one.
