We Need Basketballs to Play Basketball!

My Students

I teach in an awesome school system with so much potential. We have a mixture of students that live in the suburbs and open-enrollment students from the city. Students come ready to learn; however, they are not always provided with the resources to work to their full potential, both at their homes and at our school due to lack of funding.

I have had the pleasure to house and educate the full-inclusion classroom that is filled with students with and without disabilities for two years now.

I co-teach with a special education teacher. Together, we try to create differentiated, fun lessons that engage all students at all ability levels. We try to create an atmosphere that accepts student differences and embraces each and every one of their skill levels.

All of the students in our second grade come from diverse backgrounds and many different ability levels. As a team, we try to provide them with multi-modal learning opportunities to make sure we reach each student's needs.

My Project

My student athletes are so lucky to be able to play in a new 3-6 league at our new gym facility that is in our refurbished old high school gymnasium. I am helping to coach the teams and am so excited to see my students learning about and playing the sport of basketball.

The new gym provides us with the court, but we do not have access to many balls as most of the balls are stored at our school's gym for physical education classes and the 7th and 8th grade basketball teams.

This project would provide us with basketballs to use in our new gym for practices and games.

I love that my students are motivated to play the game as it not only provides them with physical activity but also teaches them about sportsmanship and the game of basketball!
