This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember being on the playground at your school and having fun with your friends kicking around a ball? Do you remember what it feels like to be unable to concentrate because you have a lot of energy in you? Well my students will be able to play and regulate themselves with your help!
My students have disabilities ranging from down syndrome to Di Georges syndrome and autism.
They are great kids who come from low income families and go to a low income school district. They have a lot of energy and are very willing to learn and participate when they are interested.
My Project
These balls will change my students lives! We got balls a while ago and they have all been popped or taken. When we had them before we socialized with all of the other students. The other students wanted to play and be involved with my students. It was awesome. Now for the past few months we have relied on one ball. That ball was sadly laid to rest today after it hit a tree and bounced down into the canyon. Some of our students regulate themselves by requesting to sit or bounce on the work out balls. We no longer have those either because one was taken home by the parent who donated and the other exploded when an older very big kid laid on it. These items are missed in our classroom and on the playground. It makes such a difference to have things at lunch to engage them and their general ed peers in play.
This is such an important thing to have in our classroom.
Some of these students are over weight and need the exercise so badly at school. Balls also bring us together with the general ed students and my students are the "cool" ones because they have the balls to play with. I cant even tell you how important this is to our classroom. I am so sad that we are out of balls again, and hope that this time we can have enough to survive a few more years!!!
