This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to make my lessons more engaging using different forms of technology.
From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom, I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me.
Different forms of technology in the classroom can help engage my students throughout the school day. By incorporating this technology into my instruction in a creative and exciting way, I am hopeful to motivate even our lowest learners to continue on a path of academic excellence.
My Project
We are one of the only classrooms in our school without this kind of technology. I started in my school last year and did not receive any iPad. The year before me, the class iPad was destroyed and not replaced for my class. With a new iPad, my students will be able to access apps that reinforce skills and enable higher level learning. My class is a 12:1:1 special education class so having this kind of technology would help them stay engaged because they have limited focusing abilities. An iPad would help my students open up the doors of education and individualize their learning experiences. The iPad will become a tool that will help create more authentic learning experiences in the classroom as well as build twenty first century skills that our children need in order to be successful in a quickly evolving technical world. My students will be able to improve their reading, learning phonics skills, and working with kinesthetic math skills.
An iPad is an integral and amazing tool that should be present in every classroom.
Without consistent access to technology, my students are not able to focus everyday during classroom instruction. I believe that they should not be held back because of lack of funds, but deserve to explore and learn on the same level as students who have this access. Our classroom will be forever changed by the addition of an iPad. My students will be able to access learning through technology on a daily basis!
