This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Ever have such a great idea, and then go to do it and get STUCK because you don't have the materials? Our classroom is a busy bee hive of activity and our classroom is the lifeline to all of the work we do! Centers, checklists, books, OH MY!
Our classroom has 25 Kindergarten students from all walks of life.
School is a sanctuary for most of the students, also where they spend the better part of their day! We are in a high needs, urban area, where many students do not have access to computers, paper, and an English-speaking adult at home to help them read. Even though home-life might not always be the happiest place, these boys and girls come to school each and every day with a smile on their face, their minds ready to read and write, and a willingness to better themselves with knowledge!
My Project
We were lucky enough to get a classroom printer donated to us by the wonderful donors here at DonorsChoose.org. We are always so busy printing books, checklists, centers, and materials that we have run out of ink! The ink we use for our printer creates multiple copies of books so that students can join book clubs and create favorite memories around memorable texts! We create centers so students can work in groups, with partners, and independently on concepts taught in a whole-group setting. These are always the favorites in the classroom, as students work on writing stories about magic dragons and superheroes, practice their sight words by sorting letter tiles into words, and spinning a pencil and paper clip to write and graph letters!
Ink is the vessel that drives this classroom ship!
An empty printer collects dust, but one with ink supplies knowledge and continued learning throughout the school year! Memorable books, favorite centers, and classroom materials are only part of what happens throughout the school day, but they oftentimes support the BEST times. This ink will help our classroom out this year, but also for many years (and books) to come!
