Imagine walking into a classroom for the first time. Imagine being a student that comes from a diverse background where they only speak English at school, but only Spanish at home. Now imagine being a student that also has a learning disorder built into all of this.
Often times, my students have to go home and try to complete homework that they don't understand.
Their parents want to help them but can't because they don't speak English and can't understand the directions.
I have very awesome students and families. They love their kids and want them to do their best. I also want them to do their best and this project would help my diverse learners achieve that.
My Project
My students have several needs in the area of social emotional learning. Some students have a difficult time sitting still. Some of my students really like to talk a lot and there are many emotions in my room. These social skills books will help students to see themselves on the pages of these books. They will encourage my students that it is okay to have emotional needs and how to overcome the needs. It will be exciting to see my students' eyes light up when they see that they are not alone with their different emotions and that it is okay for them to have these feelings.
