This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have been trying to build up my band program but the one thing I am lacking this year is percussion players. I have two students in my middle school band so being able to offer the drum set will challenge them but also allow for all of the parts to be played.

My students are from low-socioeconomic families but they are the best students.

They enjoy coming to school so they can chat with their friends and confide in their teachers. These students do not have the opportunities to go out and do really nice things because they do not have the money to. All of the students are on free or reduced lunch but when you talk to them, you would never know.

My Project

I recently asked for a drum set but was told that it was discontinued so I wasn't able to get it. I had to tell my students and they were really disappointed. They know what it looks like because they see drum sets on TV. I have students asking me when the drum set is coming so I am trying to make that happen.

This is so important to my kids because they never think that they are going to receive anything nice.

They are used to playing on 20 year old instruments so when they see new instruments, they get excited and start believing that they are worth it and people out there know it.
