My Students

I am so proud of what these kids have accomplished this year already. Our students work hard and are excited and eager to learn. The school community is so excited to finally have an art class and now we want to show it off to the world. At this school, we are Artists!

My Project

As an OMA (Opening Minds through the Arts) Visual Arts teacher, I embed literacy and math into my lessons on a daily basis. My job is to help students look at the knowledge that they're exploring in their core classes, through an art lens. We often link our projects to specific books or authors and sometimes even try to emulate what we see and hear in those texts.

This is where having appropriate tools comes in.

I would love to facilitate a book binding unit. Students would be writing, illustrating and binding their own books. Without a paper cutter that works, we won't be able to do this project because of the shear number of papers we would need at exactly the same size. The paper cutter that we have is shared by the school. It is small, dull and far from the art room.

The book binding project is just one example of how a paper cutter would help us on our mission to incorporate Literacy wherever possible.
