My students love math. We need a curriculum that is challenging, hands-on, and that meets them where they are.
Most of my students are from war-torn African countries.
Many came to Maine as refugees. They attend a public school that for many is the main source of meals, safe and clean spaces, and a consistent adult presence. They are eager learners, but are behind their peers academically because either they speak English as a second language or missed schooling early in their lives.
My Project
My students are eager to become excellent mathematicians, but need a curriculum that will review the topics that they didn't gain mastery of in earlier grades. I've used the Number Worlds curriculum with students in lower grades and have found it to be excellent, but my fifth grade class needs a higher-level version to reach their true potential!
Many of my students have the potential to go on to have careers in math or science.
I just need to get them caught up in math so they can meet their future with all options open to them. Thank you for helping them do that!
