We Need a Makerspace!

My students need Makerspace materials for their library to become Future Ready through developing their collaboration, technology, and 21st century skills.

My Students

Middle school is a time for exploration, and we want our library to be a place where students can find more than just a great book! Our school serves a diverse population of students in grades 6-8 who love reading and trying new things.

Our students deserve to have a library Makerspace where they can learn actively through hands-on projects ranging from origami to circuit building.

A library Makerspace would give our students the chance to explore new ideas and equipment in a fun and safe environment.

My Project

Our library is home to a diverse and very well-read collection of books, and now we are ready to expand our offerings to help students make real-world connections to library activities. Makerspaces are literally spaces for making - places where students can think, create, share, and grow as Future Ready learners.

A library Makerspace would allow students to build their STEAM skills and use materials and equipment they might not otherwise have the opportunity to try out.

Makerspaces can include a variety of activities and we would like to start by offering origami projects, circuit kits to learn about electronics, a Makey Makey board for creating circuit connections, Gravity Maze logic games, as well as other building materials for creative exploration. These tools would give students the opportunity to think and create collaboratively.
