We Need A Make-Over!

My students need 3 Chromebooks in the classroom to be able to access the Internet and do projects every day in school.

My Students

It is important to me that my students have every opportunity to participate in our global learning community. Technology is such an important part of their world and they need the tools to be able to access new information and ideas daily.

The students in my class are bright, interested children who come from diverse and rich backgrounds.

Most have connections to other countries, and have experienced other cultures. They are compassionate and genuinely care about our community and our world. They are participants in music, athletics of every variety, language studies, travel, and outdoor activities. Our school district is located in a fairly affluent city, however resources are not always allocated equitably. We have the best PTA at our school, who always put the needs of the children here first. They host numerous events that help build the community of our school. They work tirelessly to provide as much as possible for our teachers and students, but there is only so much they can do with so much need.

My Project

I would love to have Chrome Books for the students in my classroom. Chrome books work because they are small, portable and reasonably priced. Best of all, they can provide support to my students in a variety of ways. Students can work in groups, partners or individually to do research on the internet. As an example, part of our curriculum study is Space. There is hardly a day that goes by without new/changing information about our earth and outer space. No textbook can keep up with this information. My students need to experience that learning is lifelong. They would be able to see for themselves that it's exciting to be finding out new information daily. My students would also be able to use Google Docs to do their writing, publishing, importing of pictures and graphs or charts. All of the new Common Core testing is done online, and students need a chance to become comfortable with technology to be as successful as possible.

Our classroom will become a 21st century classroom, where students will have the ability to use more up to date technology to further their learning. They will be able to develop confidence and ownership of a part of their learning process. This very thing is happening in classrooms all over the country and we'd love to join in!!
