Our students are Pre-K/EC and their ages range from 3-5 years. Our class is blended with children with different types of disabilities (autism, developmental delays, fine and gross motor delays, speech delays, and other disorders). All of the students have some type of language and communication deficits.
The school is a Title I school with 100% of the students receiving free and reduced lunch.
Most of the parents are single parents, which leaves little money to help with materials needed in the classroom.
My Project
The materials we are requesting such as Lysol wipes, Cleaner Spray, Disinfectant Spray and Laundry Detergent are very important to keep our young students with special needs healthy and safe. With the major budgets cuts in North Carolina Public Schools, it's becoming very difficult to keep the materials that we need in the classroom so it will be clean and safe from germs.
Most of our students come from low income or single parent homes and many of the parents cannot afford to send in these extra needed items.
The school system only provides limited supplies to our Pre-K classroom.
We have about 75% of the students still in diapers. We want to make sure our students are clean throughout the day and washing their clothes at school is needed often.
Our class is only cleaned once a day which is not enough, so we have to clean throughout the day. We have to clean the changing table between children and the table for feeding. It is important for our classroom to stay as clean as possible so our young students with special needs stay as healthy as possible.
