This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Imagine hearing a four-year-old say, "Can I take an apple home? We don't have a lot of food in my house."

My students are growing up in an unsafe, extremely economically disadvantaged neighborhood.

As Pre-Kindergartners, this is their first experience in school. My students are learning to love school through our exciting hands-on, experience-based classroom. Unfortunately, my school is lacking tremendously in resources and funding, and we were provided with hardly any materials. In this increasingly technological world, my school does not have a single computer for children to use. Most of my students do not have a computer at home. My students need to learn to use a computer in order to keep up with their peers in more affluent areas of the country.

My Project

With this computer, my students will learn some of the basic computer skills they need to stay up-to-speed in our increasingly technology-based society. Additionally, they will learn many of the pre-k concepts including letters, shapes, colors, and numbers through various educational games. With a printer, my students can print out their work to show their families.

My students enter pre-k already academically and socially behind their more affluent peers.

Having this computer in our classroom will help to close the existing achievement gap by not perpetuating the obvious differences in funding among schools.
