I teach in a low-income school where many students have uncertain living arrangements. Many are considered homeless, live with other families or in transitional housing. Our school provides a stable and safe environment for them with many adults who care and support them.
Providing supports that allow students to be successful at school and ready to learn will boost self-esteem and self-worth.
While many of our students have difficult home lives, they are still driven to learn and build relationships with their peers.
My Project
With schools being closed for the rest of this year due to Covid-19, students and staff are feeling disconnected. Oregon Department of Education states that schools need to focus on care and connection during this time and staff are coming up with creative was to make that happen!
Everyone loves to get mail!
This project would provide postcards and postcard stamps for every teacher in the building so they could send students a postcard. Not only will this bring smiles to the face of teachers, it will let students know that we are thinking of them. This connection will encourage them to continue to be engaged in online learning and remind them that school is more than just a building!
