Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are in six different elementary/K-8 schools in the Long Beach Unified School District. As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to provide the most engaging and enriching learning experiences for my students.
The majority of my students have limited experiences in the arts and music, and I want to give them the opportunity to create and experience the joy that only music can bring!
My Project
Students learn best by doing! Incorporating movement with props in music class makes the learning 'come alive' for students!! Students are active learners in my music classes.
I am requesting a variety of props which students will use while learning musical concepts.
For example, they will learn about musical form while I teach them using the ribbon streamers, or they will learn improvisation using the hand drums! These types of learning activities help students develop excellent listening skills while they are responding kinesthetically to some of the greatest classical and modern pieces of all time.
The props and rhythm instruments will provide my K through 5th grade students creative opportunities to sing, play, listen and move while learning the musical concepts- all while having fun!
