This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The students in this Career Technical Education course will prepare the students for a Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management. Through hands-on activities and in-depth study of the culinary arts field, this course helps students hone their cooking skills and gives them the opportunity to explore careers in the food industry.
The school is over 70% of low-income households looking for an alternative to colleges and universities.
In this course, students learn all about food, including food culture, food history, food safety, and current food trends. They have hands-on learning in our culinary lab.
My Project
This SLR camera will be used by all of my Culinary students to spark their interest in food photography of the beautiful dishes the create in class.
Most of my low-income students have never heard of an SLR camera and will be amazed at the food art they can create with this technology.
STEM Culinary arts integration is a highly flexible and engaging project-based learning activity, ideal for STEM education. The STEM goals of collaboration, inquiry and logical reasoning are easily fostered and the Next Generation Science Standards can also be targeted.
There are numerous food contests, scholarships and competitions in our beautiful state, however, my students have never used a real camera. They will be amazed at the results they will see using this SLR camera compare to their point and click cell phone cameras. I can't wait to see the look on their faces as they take beautiful artistic photos with this camera!
The Camera will be used to photograph their creations when they have great pictures the printer will be used to print and display their work for the whole world to see. They will also be able to print in the full-color pictures to apply for scholarships, enter culinary competitions and for their personal portfolios.
