My Students

I teach a 4th grade class in an inner city area where many of my students are second language learners.

Most of their experience with reading is through reading programs that focus on state standards. They are rarely exposed to literature that inspires them and creates a love for reading.

My Project

Literature introduces children to new worlds of experience. When children start to enjoy what they are reading, they begin to grow and evolve and begin to see that they are capable and their possibilities are endless. Kids today, need that more then ever! The two books sets that I would liked for my students, THE BFG by Ronald Dahl and The Bridge To Terabithia, will help enhance not only their literacy skills, but open their mind to imagination.
