My students are great, hardworking kids who come to school each day and strive to reach the goals and expectations set for them. We are a Title I school in the state of Michigan. Like many classrooms, I have students with a wide variety of talents and challenges. I have children with special needs and children who might not exhibit any particular special needs but need just as much attention. I have students who qualified for gifted education, and students who need academic intervention. I have students who struggle with behavior, and students who I work to get to speak up more.
My students come from a variety of ethnic backgrounds and socioeconomic groups.
These students come to school with smiles on their faces, even though some of them are faced with extreme burdens and challenges in their home lives.
My Project
I have a true passion for reading, and I love to share that with my students. I am requesting a collection of new chapter books and graphic novels to encourage my students' passion for reading.
Recent studies confirm the more contact children have with books, the better readers they become.
It is imperative that students have access to great books in the classroom. Studies also show that high quality, new books spark interest and create enthusiasm in young readers.
All of the titles requested come highly recommended from well-respected, literacy specialists. Sometimes, all it takes is one book to turn a student who doesn't like to read into a book-lover. Your support of this project could help make that difference for a child in my classroom.
