My Students
Can you remember rushing home after school just so you could pick up your current book in a series of books you are reading and the excitement and anticipation of devouring the next book?
Third grade is the year students have learned to read and are now reading to learn.
Being able to escape into the world that authors create for us, in many of my students' cases, helps with so many emotional struggles and can be a lifesaver for them as well.
My students are so overjoyed and eager to pick up their favorite book and completely involve themselves in their reading and we foster a sense of individuality, support, respect, and love in our classroom at all times. This is the focus of our classroom. We embrace our love of learning and support each other in the process. Most of my students are from low income families so to be able to give them their favorite books will help them completely immerse themselves in their learning.
My Project
These books will give my students the opportunity to read the books THEY love to read to help foster and grow their love of reading. The safety my students find in their classroom is the most important thing. They come to school to learn but also to find a stable, happy, safe place. These books are chosen by the students and for the students to escape into the words of their favorite authors. They are able to tap into the world the authors create for them. Reading is the foundation for all lifelong learning and at this age it is one of the best times to encourage and spark that love of learning.
