Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from a low income families. They are learning to speak English. Their parents work long hours and have very little time to support their children with academics. They have limited living spaces and they have limited funds to support literature.

Also, they have a high respect for education and want the best for their children.

They want their children to develop a love for reading and to develop it in a way that creates enthusiasm for the love of reading.

My Project

The sofas and chair will be used to develop a space in my classroom that demonstrates a love for reading. DonorsChoose helped us get one sofa this year, and now I'm shooting for three more, so that all my 18 students will gather together to read together.

The sofas and chair will be used so that children know reading is like playing, Reading is for pleasure as well as knowledge!

The space will demonstrate the importance for reading and the joy that reading can bring to each person who delves into literature.

My students will feel comfortable and very natural in this space, much like they feel when they are freely playing outside in the playground! I hope that this love for reading will continue thoughout their lives!

The sofas will be used when I read out loud to the students. The students will listen in a most comfortable way and enjoy reading.

They may buddy read and experience sharing a book together.

Any time a child wants to read independently, he or she can do so in a beautiful reading space!
