Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students face challenges throughout the day but they each have a favorite book. Their unique needs require focused repetitious lessons in order to grasp and apply even the simplest tasks. The Phonics Read-Along books will provide immediate reinforcement and skills needed for reading success.

Our school is located on the east side of LA, and has a population of about 600 students.

For most of our students, Spanish is their primary language. Our special needs students who through no fault of their own face additional exceptional challenges. Basic accommodations requested for our special needs students are denied due to drastic budget cuts. We can not afford what our special needs students require to succeed. This is why this forum is so important to our students. Even the smallest donation can make a difference and will impact many students lives for years to come.

My Project

My students love to have their favorite stories read again and again. How empowering would it be for them to be able to read the books themselves. Someone once stated, "The greatest gift is a passion for reading." My job as their teacher is to foster that passion and provide many opportunities for success. The Phonics Read-Along books will help students explore long and short vowels and build phonic skills as they listen again and again. They will be able to share books with their peers while they listen simultaneously at the listening center. Fun books with entertaining rhymes and rhythms help students develop word recognition and decoding skills. Their self esteem will soar and they will be motivated to read even more books.

Reading is the basic tool in the living of a good life. My unique students deserve a good life. The Phonics Read-Along books will help them on their journey of becoming successful readers.
