My Students

I work in a Title I school with some of the most amazing, creative, and hard-working students. More than 60% of my students come from a lower socio-economic home. Many of my students are ESL and many more qualify for special education.

I have the best students and I want to give them the best!

Because of the daily obstacles my students face, some of them find education very challenging. Many come to school without their basic needs being met so it is hard for them to focus on math, science, or reading. I try to think outside of the box so that my kids are engaged and want to learn.

My Project

Our class is working on a couple of reading challenges this year, including the 40 Book Challenge and the 180 Picture Book Challenge. My students were given the task of reading 40 books from different genres and I have a challenge of reading a picture book a day to my students. My goal as a teacher is to provide opportunities to my students to discover the excitement of reading. To accomplish these goals, I need to have a variety of engaging picture and chapter books in our classroom library.

Students who don't enjoy reading just haven't found a book or genre that they enjoy yet.

By having an assortment of books available, students will have choices and discover books to fall in love with. Please help our class accomplish these many goals and challenges.
